Chinese Teacher Scholarships at Yunnan Normal University 2026

Chinese Teacher Scholarships at Yunnan Normal University 2026 The Center for Language and (CLEC) in China has started accepting applications for the 2026 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Starting this fall, Yunnan Normal University is reopening one of the largest state-funded programs to train Chinese language teachers around the world by giving fifty spots exclusively to foreign students. From now until September 2026, you can apply for the class.

Scholarship Overview: China’s Global Language Education Strategy

The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship is meant to meet the growing need for Mandarin classes in schools and colleges around the world, in places like Nairobi and São Paulo. It also shows that China is putting a lot of money into soft power relations through language learning. Even though Mandarin is becoming more important around the world, there aren’t as many skilled teachers as there should be. This scholarship is especially helpful because of this.

This program to train Chinese language teachers from around the world is run by CLEC, which took over from the old Hanban. After the pandemic, tuition costs are going up, but the scholarship covers everything: tuition, housing, insurance, and a monthly stipend. This makes it easier for foreign students, especially those from developing countries, to go to college.

Full Financial Package:

Recipients receive:

  • Full tuition waiver for their chosen programme
  • Free on-campus accommodation at Yunnan Normal University
  • Comprehensive medical insurance under China’s international student plan
  • Monthly living allowance: CNY 2,500 (~USD 345) for bachelor’s or one-year/one-semester programmes, CNY 3,000 for master’s, and CNY 3,500 for doctoral students

The stipend isn’t very much compared to Western norms, but the lower cost of living in Kunming makes it go further. This plan is like the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) for language-focused studies, but it is only for students who want to work as Chinese language teachers. Applicants should set aside money for their own foreign airfare since there is no travel grant included.

Benefits of Chinese Teacher Scholarships:

  • Full Tuition Coverage: The scholarship covers all tuition costs, so foreign students can go to school to learn how to teach Chinese without having to worry about money.
  • Free housing on campus: Recipients get comfortable housing on campus at Yunnan Normal University, which gives them a safe and handy place to live while they study.
  • Monthly Living Stipend: Scholars get a monthly allowance of CNY 2,500 to 3,500, which covers food, transportation, and other daily costs. This makes living in Kunming reasonable.
  • Full medical insurance: The scholarship covers all medical costs through China’s foreign student insurance plan, so all scholars will be taken care of during their stay.
  • Professional Career Pathway: Graduates can connect with Confucius Classrooms, bilingual schools, and university language departments around the world. This helps them get ready for successful jobs teaching Chinese.
